What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

Trigger point dry Needling is a technique where an acupuncture needle is inserted into taught muscular bands that contain trigger points. The needle causes a twitch response and the muscle then relaxes.

Trigger points can best be described as a point in the muscle that is so tight that it refers pain to other places when you squeeze or press it. Many people get them in the neck or in the top of the shoulder and rub them when a headache is caused from them. Other People get them in the low back or hips and it can cause a type of symptom similar to Sciatica.

How will Trigger Point Dry Needling Help Me?

Trigger point dry needling can assist in releasing unwanted tightness and “knots” or “spasms” in muscles that typically cause you pain. These muscles can be anything from the muscles in the head and neck to the jaw, Shoulders, knees, elbows. It can even assist in plantar fasciitis.

If you are an active person with pain during or directly after you are active this treatment could help you. One of the problems with tight muscles is that they actually develop weakness. After we get the muscle to release the abnormal tension, we can then strengthen it to prevent this from happening again.

A very common injury that I treat with TDN is Lateral Epicondylitis, or Tennis Elbow. If you have ever had this, you know what a tricky situation it can cause with all activities. Not using your arms is really not a great option. This treatment can help you significantly decrease treatment and recovery time.
